Sun-kissed Pages and Mixed Emotions for this 2★ story. Happy Place by Emily Henry didn’t quite live up to the bookstagram hype for me. While it had witty banter and a fun summer vacation premise, the immature characters and frustrating miscommunication trope fell short. Not my top read this year, but worth a nostalgic escape.

𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗦: second chance, fake dating
𝗧Ws: depression, anxiety, grief

I had high hopes for this one becase of all the bookstagram hype and sadly, it didn't live up to it. I understand that I am in the minority on this so maybe Emily Henry is just not the author for me.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗗:
- mental health representation (depression, anxiety)
- dynamic amongst the friends group
- the witty banter was on point
- fun premise that feels like a quick and easy summer vacation escape
- emotional conflict at the end was one of my fav scenes that I listened to that section more than once because the dialogues were realistic and genuine, and hit home for me.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗗𝗜𝗗𝗡'𝗧 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘:
- characters were more immature than I expected for persons in their 30s (felt like I was readin YA)
- miscommunication trope was super annoying, both between the MCs and amongst the friends.
- though I usually love dual timeline stories, the emotional shifts between both was jarring to me and I had a hard time connecting with the way their relationship progressed.
- Both MCs weren't particularly likable. Wyn felt one-dimensional (despite the mental health trope) and Harriet's people pleasing skills got frustrating.

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡: An ode to the simpler and more fun days of our youth. Despite the fun premise and witty banter, it was not one of my fav reads this year.

I cannot rave enough about this book. It's very rare for me to tear up while reading a book but this one was so emotional that I had to take a reading hiatus to recover lol. It's easily become one of my top 5 reads for 2023.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗗:
- rich, authentic, believable characters that felt so real that I wish I could go to Chicago to meet them
- sensitive and heartbreaking representation of mental health struggles (depression)
- multigenerational story where you get to see the ripple effects of decisions made in the past
- multiple POVs that kept me completely engrossed
- beautiful, poetic and deep writing

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡: A captivating family drama that explores the importance of staying true to oneself, the power and sacrifices of love, and the difficult choices that can test the strength of family bonds. Hello Beautiful is storytelling at its finest #mustread.

I absolutely adored Daniel and Alexis’ story from the previous book, and I didn’t think Jimenez could top it, but she knocks it out of the park again with Yours Truly. With humor, heart, and unflinching honesty, she weaves an inspiring and moving tale about loving someone just as they are, flaws and all.

𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗦: Fake dating, friends to lovers, workplace romance

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗗:
- Jacob is sweet, thoughtful and patient. If you loved Daniel from 'Part of Your World', you'll love him because they're both such golden retriever heros. His social anxiety was portrayed really nicely and I saw alot of myself in him.
- Brianna is smart, witty, and one of the most likable female MCs I’ve encountered. There were moments when I wanted to shake some sense into her, I was already in love with her character that I didn’t even mind the angsty slow burn.
- their progression from friends to lovers feels organic and genuine. Usually, I’m not too fond of miscommunication in stories, but it was well done in this case.
- audible narrators did a fantastic job and would really recommend this as an audiobook.
- using letters to communicate between them felt nostalgic and worked well for their chemistry
- great balance of lighthearted humor and heavier issues like organ donation, chronic illness and social anxiety.
- hilarious side characters

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡: Yours Truly contains all the humor and heart you could ever want in a romance book. It’s a heartwarming story of a quiet, tender love blossoming into something wonderful and emotionally fulfilling. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good inspiring, and moving read that will leave you feeling comforted and content.

𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗦: Marriage in trouble, second chance
𝗧Ws: pregnancy loss, depression, grief

I get why everyone is crazy about this book, but maybe because of all the buzz, I had high expectations and felt a little let down by some parts of the book. There were definitely some great moments, but it just didn’t quite live up to the hype for me.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗗:
- their healthy co-parenting style. They put their kids and business first, and it’s refreshing to read about couples who can raise their kids without letting their divorce get in the way.
- positive message in this book about therapy, encouraging readers to ask for help without feeling weak or unlovable.
- beautiful writing and dual POVs
- Yasmen's bravery in making difficult choices and Josiah's role as a father
- poignant depiction of what it feels like for a mother to lose her child

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗗𝗜𝗗𝗡'𝗧 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘:
- romance was underdeveloped. There was too much emphasis on their physical attraction that barely any time was spent on the emotional issues that tore them apart. When it was dealt with in the end, it was rushed and disappointing. I was told multiple times how great their love was but was never shown it past their sexual chemistry.
- as brave as Yasmen was, she did some juvenile things I didn't like and weren't necessary for the plot
- many filler scenes which didn't add to the plot and it would have been better used to develop the romance more.

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡: An enlightening and emotional story about healing from grief and being brave enough to take second chances. While there were missing elements to the story that left me disappointed, like the underdeveloped romance, its mental health representation elevates the book.
