The Bellinger Sisters series takes you on a journey of self-discovery, finding your voice, and ultimately fighting for the ones you love. Using her classic trifecta of compelling characters, steamy love scenes, and engaging storylines, Tessa Bailey creates a swoon-worthy romance series that you will not be able to put down.

Piper and Hannah Bellinger are two sisters who could not be more different. Piper is the socialite who survives on designer shoes and Instagram selfies, while Hannah’s definition of fun is curling up on the couch with her vinyl records spinning softly in the background.

But despite being as similar as fire and ice, these sisters have an unbreakable bond that serves as the quiet, invisible thread that connects this series together.

Whether you’re looking for a heartwarming read or a charming escape, the Bellinger Sisters Series has something for everyone.

Note: You don’t have to read this series in order but I would recommend that you do because Hannah and Fox’s story in book 2 continues right where the first book ends. However, if you’re thinking of jumping straight into book 2, no worries! Bailey does a fantastic job of developing their friendship in a way that lets you get to know the characters deeply, ensuring you can fully grasp their story even without reading book 1 first.

Book 1 – It Happened One Summer

Summary

Piper’s idea of “breaking a sweat” is finding the best angle to take a glamorous Instagram selfie for her millions of followers. However, when her socialite lifestyle gets out of hand, her stepfather decides to teach her the meaning of hard work by sending her to the small fishing town of Westport, Washington.

There, she meets Brendan Taggert, a local and grumpy fisherman who is unhappy with the disruption she causes in the town and in his heart, making him feel things he hasn’t felt in a long time.

But the more he tries to avoid Piper, the more he finds himself drawn to her. It is a small town, after all. As they both learn to navigate new emotional territories, they realize that change isn’t as scary as it seems, and that charting a new course is much less daunting with someone by your side.

Why It Happened One Summer is worth 5 stars

  • Brendan is such a perfect balance of alpha male and heartwarming tenderness that he will easily top your list of favourite book BFs.
  • Piper is sassy and funny, with a heart of gold – in a town where no one knows her for her fame, she’s not able to hide her insecurities behind the flashes of a camera. Her journey as she struggles to find herself and build her independence is something I think everyone can relate to.
  • Sizzling chemistry – Tessa Bailey is known for her steamy sex scenes and It Happened One Summer will not disappoint. So if you like open door romances, then you will definitely love this one.
  • Dual POVs make for an immersive read – we get to witness Piper’s journey as she struggles to believe in herself and Brendan’s as he battles with his trust issues
  • Well-paced, engaging story with realistic romantic progression – both MCs have flaws and insecurities, and the balance between them creates a satisfying conflict resolution that leads up to a swoon-worthy ending.

Best Quotes

  • You can be as high maintenance as you want, honey. But I’m the only one who does the maintenance.
  • ” Constant work, Piper? No. You misunderstand me.” He tipped her chin up and kissed her mouth. “When the reward is as perfect as you, as perfect as this, the work is a fucking honor.”
  • I want you. However you are, whatever you are, I want you.
  • Piper, the man looks at you like…he’s full of cracks and you’re the glue.
  • Your daughter will always have a place in my heart. But Piper owns that heart. She came here and robbed me blind of it.

Book 2 – Hook, Line and Sinker

Summary

Hannah and Fox are two souls who grew up underestimating their own potential. Hannah, who has often taken a backseat to others, is now determined to seize control of her life and become a leading lady in her own right.

Meanwhile, Fox strives to be worthy of the love of someone as pure and sweet as Hannah. Despite a rocky start to their friendship in book 1, Hook, Line and Sinker rebuilds and grows their friendship by balancing heartwarming moments with undeniable chemistry.

By addressing issues such as toxic masculinity, Tessa Bailey delivers a powerful and inspiring story about believing in oneself and fighting for the one you love.

Why Hook, Line and Sinker is worth 5 stars

  • Fox is an emotionally impactful character that will stay with you long after you close the book. He’s presented as a playboy, but as the story unfolds, you see a different side to him. He struggles with the societal pressures that are placed on him, and his efforts to fight against his own self-doubt and low expectations are incredibly relatable.
  • Hannah is the perfect balance of sweet and sassy. She’s a force all on her own with a passion for finding the perfect song for any moment. Her charming personality and spunk has made her one of my favourite female MCs I’ve ever read.
  • Undeniable chemistry – the slow build up of their friendship into something more coupled with the sexual tension between both MCs will keep you flipping the pages very quickly waiting for the moment when they finally give in and my oh my, was it worth it.
  • Refreshing and gratifying take on the conflict resolution by Hannah that it will make you want to high-5 her.
  • Exploration of toxic masculinity – Bailey explores the stigma that men face in trying to be vulnerable and the effects of being taught that a man’s social value stems from their success with women. She also demonstrates how society is complicit in these issues and encourages a healthier approach to them.
